One thing I love about homeschooling is that I get to learn so much about our Catholic faith, along with our kids. Having grown up in Brunei, and having studied in Bruneian schools where there are no Christian Living Education (CLE) or Religion classes for Catholics, I know I still don’t know a lot about the Faith. Thank God for homeschooling, right?
Well, one of the things I didn’t know for the longest time was that, in the Catholic Church, the month of March is traditionally dedicated to St. Joseph.
So what better way to welcome in March than to share more awesome FREE resources for Catholic families — homeschooling and non-homeschooling alike!
- Catholic Icing’s posts on St. Joseph. As usual, Lacy, one of my “go-to” Catholic mom bloggers, has rounded up some TERRIFIC ideas for celebrating the Feast of St. Joseph (March 19) and for making him a “prominent” figure in our homes. Of honorable mention is her post on the Novena to St. Joseph, complete with printables! (I want to try doing this next week!
- Living the Liturgical Year for Catholics has an informative post with tips for celebrating St. Joseph’s Feast Day. (Of course, it mentions Lacy’s posts, too! Heehee!)
- Catholic Inspired’s St. Joseph Crafts and Activities is another great free resource for Catholic families. I love Jennifer’s chore chart idea (+ printable!) — which reminds me, we really SHOULD have the kids do more chores around the house, even if we have a helper!
- If your kids like to color (mine don’t on most days, haha!), then you’ll also like these free coloring pages of St. Joseph from Waltzing Matilda (though it’s more for St. Joseph’s feast day in May) and The Virtual St. Joseph Altar.
- Paper Dali’s post on St. Joseph’s Feast Day contains a link to a great printable — a hand-drawn picture of the Holy Family — plus instructions for making a St. Joseph peg doll. Now, where does one get wooden pegs locally, I wonder?
It’s my hope and prayer that by using one or more of the great ideas from these sites, you and your family will grow richer in faith and in love with the beauty of our Catholic traditions.
I know we are, and I thank God for all the awesome people out there who really take the time to create free stuff for living out the Liturgical Year!
Here’s to a blessed, bountiful, beautiful month of March for us all!

Do you already have The Song of the Swallows? It commemorates St. Joseph’s Day!
Ooooh, sounds great!
If you have a copy of the book, I’d love to have one!
